Honorable Janet Reno
U.S. Attorney General
Department of Justice
10th & Constitution Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20530
FAX 2025144371
Dear General:
On August 22 you received a faxed letter of request for federal intervention
on behalf of our church because of a midnight bombing incident August
20, which was the latest in a four-year campaign of terror waged against
our church by pro-homosexual extremists encouraged by local media and
local law enforcement agencies. (See, another copy of our Aug.
22 letter to you, attached). We've not heard from you. On August 23 we
similarly contacted Secretary of the Treasury Robert Rubin, who promptly
responded by sending Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms experts to
our church. (See, letter to Rubin and Aug. 24 The Topeka Capital-Journal
news story, attached). This letter is another formal request that you
authorize and direct Mr. Randy Rathbun, United States Attorney for Kansas,
to forthwith enter this case and prosecute those identified as responsible
for this latest crime against our church, for the following reasons:
1. Pro-homosexual state officials, encouraged by our rabidly pro-homosexual
media, and led by district attorney Joan Hamilton who is irrevocably corrupt
and incompetent and who has vowed publicly to destroy our church because
of our anti-homosexual Bible message, will certainly, deliberately botch
this case as they have all prior cases. 2. A $5,000 reward offer by our
church has yielded a probable suspect who led the bombing raid, by name,
address, occupation, age, and: that the bombing device was a PVC pipe
bomb timed to go off at a house they mistook for the church parsonage
when they were some blocks away at Sonic Drive-in on Gage establishing
an alibi; that they are Washburn University students angered at our church's
anti-homosexual pickets; and, that they are unconcerned about being caught
and punished because they perceive from the tidal waves of negative media
against our church that the Topeka police, district attorney and all law
enforcement authorities "think it's a big joke" for crimes to
be committed against our church members.
Sincerely,
Fred Phelps
